Rockin' the Courthouse

Rockin' the Courthouse – Toronto, May 6, 2011
LAWYERS ROCK FOR LAWYERS FEED THE HUNGRY!

If you’re a rock music enthusiast, you won’t want to miss ‘Rockin’ the Courthouse’ on May 6, 2011. The concert, which takes place at the Adelaide Street Courthouse in Toronto, is in aid of the Toronto Lawyers Feed the Hungry Program. Five lawyer bands and one showcase band from participating producer League of RockTM will be featured.

Songs will include a selection of solid classics as well as many new favourites. “There will be something to suit virtually everyone’s tastes,” reports event organizer and lawyer John McMillan.

The concert is a first for the Toronto Lawyers Feed the Hungry Program. “We’re very pleased to be able to present so much talent at such a landmark venue – Live@Courthouse at the original York County Court House,” says McMillan.

A volunteer with the Toronto Lawyers Feed the Hungry program since his days as an articling student, McMillan has organized several events to raise funds for Lawyers Feed the Hungry. He organized and exhibited in two photography exhibits/charity auctions, “Legal Exposure” in 2002 and “Legal Exposure II: In Camera” in 2004, and, in 2007, he organized “Legal Easel,” a photography and art show/charity auction. All three events raised awareness and funds for the Toronto Lawyers Feed the Hungry program.

As a member of the League of Rock, McMillan thought a concert would be a good fundraiser. Once League of Rock agreed to produce the event, McMillan knew it would be easy to get the lawyer bands and sponsors on board. “Everyone was very willing to participate in this good cause, and the Law Society was supportive of the idea from the very beginning,” he says. Lawyer bands include Hung Jury, Poison Pill, The Loopholes, The Soul Practitioner and Tortious Conduct. The League of Rock showcase band is Motion Denied.

Sponsors include McMillan Law Professional Corporation, Gardiner Roberts, Howie, Sacks & Henry LLP and Paliare Roland Barristers.

Location & Tickets Rockin’ the Courthouse takes place at the Courthouse at 57 Adelaide Street East, Toronto. Doors open at 7 p.m. and bands will perform from 8 p.m. to 12:45 a.m. The Courthouse will stay open until 2 a.m. for those who wish to mingle afterwards.

Advance tickets will be available for purchase online in December for $25 each ($30 at the door).

League of Rock Receives Endorsement From University Of Waterloo

League of Rock Receives Endorsement From University Of Waterloo

Toronto, Canada (September 9th, 2010) – League of Rock Receives Endorsement From University Of Waterloo's Dr. Ronald Pursor, Prof. Of Management.

Bob Sproule, School Of Accounting & Finance University Of Waterloo

Our Waterloo students spend literally one week on each of the major functional areas of a business. In addition we spend a few weeks on other related topics: globalization, role of government in business, teamwork, types of business organizations and ethics and corporate social responsibility.

In our coverage of teamwork we start by walking through some of the research done by J. Richard Hackman on this subject. We then look at a video featuring John Chambers, CEO of CISCO discussing their implementation of teamwork. Next we move through a discussion of the stages of team development. Then we move into a discussion of being an effective team member looking at individual differences that exist between team members, how to be a good listener, and then look at the subject of feedback.

We then look at the League Of Rock Documentary and discuss three issues: how are the teams participating in this event "real", what sort of enabling mechanisms are provided in this team building experience and what supportive context is provided (which all tie back to the earlier coverage of J. Richard Hackman).

In this course students do a lot of team work and so they have the practical opportunity to see and practice what we talk about in this module. “The League Of Rock Team Building Documentary serves as a great example of an innovative approach to the development of team skills, re-enforcing the important of this skill set in the workplace”.

League of Rock Receives Endorsement From University Of San Francisco

League of Rock Receives Endorsement From University Of San Francisco

Toronto, Canada (August 13, 2010) – League of Rock Receives Endorsement From University Of San Francisco's Dr. Ronald Pursor, Prof. Of Management.

Univ. Of San Francisco :: Endorsement Dr. Ronald Pursor, Prof. Of Management

As Professor of Management at San Francisco State University, I have directed my students to learn how team-building can be a fun and engaging experience by viewing the work created at the League Of Rock by Terry Moshenberg and Topher Stott. In my online course on Management, thousands of my students have watched and commented on the lively video documentaries where the League Of Rock used their highly innovative approach to team-building, including an in-depth case of this application at Unilever.

Music brings people together; League Of Rock’s creative approach to team- building is on the leading edge of arts-based management training. My students are amazed and impressed by what they see happening at the League Of Rock, and are turned on to the ideas that team-building can be fun and exciting—which leads to results.

As one student recently commented in an online discussion:

“This is an amazing approach to team building and leadership. It is upbeat and hip, and helps employees to engage in training that they usually dislike attending. Personally, from watching the documentary, I believe it works because the learning process is innovative, fun, and highly interactive. The League Of Rock facilitators inspire the group by allowing them to think out of the box. This process allows people to improve their group dynamics and come together with their unique strengths to work as a stronger unit. In Corporations, everyone is used to the same type of work day in and day out—but this approach really brings a breath of fresh air.”

Ronald E. Purser, Ph.D. Professor of Management College of Business San Francisco State University
